New Hanover board to enlighten public on e-cigarettes

Jul 11, 2013 by
e-cigarettesThe New Hanover County Board of Health on Wednesday passed a resolution encouraging regulation of electronic cigarettes and the study of their health effects.
The county has already banned e-cigarettes at the local health department. Use of e-cigarettes by county employees follows the same restrictions as tobacco use.
The resolution essentially states that the board of health does not believe that e-cigarettes are proven to be a safe alternative to smoking. The board's responsibilities include protecting and promoting public health and promoting a safe and healthy community. One goal is to identify and reduce health risks in the community, so board members felt compelled to establish a unified stance on the topic.
