Tenn. jail sells e-cigarette to inmates?

LAFAYETTE, Tenn. (WHAS11) -- A jail in Tennessee has come up with a unique way to make money, by selling electronic cigarettes to inmates.

Smoking is no longer allowed inside the Macon County Jail in Lafayette, so the jail is selling a new kind of e-cigarette made especially for use behind bars.
Unlike the ones you can buy, these can't be recharged.
Inmates get about 500 puffs before they have to buy a new one at a cost of $13.50.

Sheriff Mark Gammons hopes the jail will see a profit.
"Hope I can make $45 thousand a year and that profit will be turned in to help pay these guards for being understaffed, underpaid," Sheriff Gammons, said.

FDA to Propose New Regulations on E-Cigarettes

E-Cigarettes No Better Than Regular Cigarettes

You’ve probably seen those ads for the E-cigarette, which promise to allow you to get your nicotine fix while leaving you sans-ash try smell. In one commercial for Blu E-cigarettes, Stephen Dorff tells you how you can “stop feeling guilty” when you want to light up, stop “smelling like an ashtray”, and that you can even enjoy your E-cigarette at a basketball game. Dorff also casually mentions that he’s been a smoker for 20 years, which is what I find most problematic about this commercial, and apparently so does the Food and Drug Administration.

FDA Ponders the Regulation of E-cigarettes for Three Years

E-cigarettes are battery-powered devices that heat nicotine solution and create an inhalable vapor. The FDA has discussed the possibility of regulating E-cigarettes since 2010, and rightly so. The cigarette companies are likely trying to attract a new slew of smokers by first hooking them to a slightly less harmful E-cigarette with the hopes of getting them to move into the full-blown addiction.

Several Days ago I received a little package in the mail from Spinfuel eMagazine South. Inside was something called the “iFill”, along with a 15ML bottle of e-Liquid (Mango) made by the same company that made the iFill, Maya Electronic Smoke. I was asked to review it and after spending 4 or 5 days with it I present the review below. I hope you enjoy it. – KHB

Maya Electronic Smoke is an e-Cigarette brand out of California. They make a cig-a-like product and the iFill, along with several ‘flavors’ of e-Liquid. I did not receive their cig-a-like product so I cannot speak to the quality of that segment of the company, but I did get the chance to enjoy their iFill product and one flavor of the e-Liquid, Mango

The iFill

The Maya iFill is a 650mAh eGo-style battery, right down to the 5-click on/off activator button. Other than the soft and smooth texture of the battery itself it is identical to the vast majority of eGo batteries on the market. Had it not been for the iFill logo on the battery it would be very difficult to distinguish the iFill battery from a Halo Triton battery. Well, almost anyway. The iFill battery is just a tiny bit lighter (by feel) than the Halo Triton.

It is so close to the Halo Triton that the clearomizer that comes with it works on both the iFill battery and the Halo Triton battery, which means that the clearomizer is a basic T2-type clearo. There are no markings on the clearomizer so I cannot tell you if it’s a Kanger T2 or some other “clone”, but for all intent and purposes it looks identical to the clearomizers we use to buy early last year (it’s not a Halo Triton clearomizer) and performs like one, which is to say…pretty good.

Bloomberg Is Trying To Snuff Out Your E-Cigs

The Bloomberg administration is quietly working to explicitly categorize electronic cigarettes as tobacco products and enact a sweeping ban on flavored e-cigs.

The details of the plan come from a newly leaked draft of three tobacco-related bills currently making their way through the City Council; one would raise the tobacco age to 21, while another would prohibit the display of cigarette advertising in stores. A third bill would prohibit the use of tobacco coupons, create a $10.50 price floor for cigarette packs, and increase the fines against those selling illegal cigarettes.

Initially the bills, drafted by the Health Department and introduced into the Council at the request of Mayor Bloomberg, were silent concerning the City's position on electronic cigarettes.

"The bills were written with no intention of addressing electronic cigarettes at all," Health Department Commissioner Thomas Farley told e-cigarette proponents [PDF] at a hearing in May.

The draft language reveals that this is no longer the case. While menthol and tobacco flavored e-cigarettes would ostensibly remain available at convenience stores, the burgeoning flavored e-cig market would ironically be relegated to "tobacco bars," of which there are very few in New York City—mostly because they must have been in existence before December 31, 2001.

Vision – Glass V-Fate Nova 2ML

What a difference a year makes in the world of e-cigarettes! Just about a year ago the Vivi Nova was all the rage. Never mind the leaking or the dry hits, the Vivi Nova sold like there was no tomorrow. The Vivi Nova, with all its faults, sold for $14.99 ($13.99 on sale), through most vendors, and it was generally regarded as a fantastic clearomizer tank. Today, well, not so much (today’s price is $9.95). 2013 has been a great year in Clearomizer technology and the year is only a bit more than half over.

Vision has been leading the way in clearomizers for some time now, followed closely by SMOKTech, and with the recently released new products is there any company that can beat them to the top? Hmmm… Take Tom’s review on the Vision Victory, or my review here for the V-Fate as examples. Both are good products, and so much better than last years crop of clearomizers, but where the Vision Victory succeeds the Vision V-Fate doesn’t quite get there.

So, is the V-Fate a new Vivi Nova?

Yes, certainly it is. Only better. Admittedly the 2ML V-Fate is heavier than the mini Vivi’s of the same capacity, and the use of Pyrex instead of plastic makes every bit of weight worth it. As far as the price goes, the Vivi Nova’s have dropped to under $10 while the new V-Fate is $12.89 (MyVaporStore). With the introduction of the V-Fate I can’t see the Vivi’s hanging on much longer.
