Inability to follow directions may have caused e-cigarette fire

I want you all to read this carefully and watch the included video. Most of you will catch the problem right away as you watch the video or read the article. This could have all been prevented if the e-cigarette was not left unattended when charging. Hacker himself said he was down stairs and that it didnt stop charging when it was done.

I've a couple of questions to ponder: How does he know it didnt stop charging and why was the e-cigarette left unattended while charging? It's news like this that makes vaping and the e-cigarette look bad when in fact it's usually the lack of someones ability to use common sense!   411Vapes

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Playing video games in his basement, Thor Hacker said he heard a strange noise upstairs so he went to investigate.

“There’s smoke pouring out of the room, smoke alarms are all going crazy.  I walk in here, the beds on fire, I thought it was my girlfriend’s curling iron,” Hacker said.

Few rules apply to electronic cigarettes

electronic cigarettes
BURR RIDGE – Craig Rzepka has gotten a few dirty looks while using his electronic cigarettes. That is, he said, until the complainant realizes the vapor he’s exhaling smells more like dessert than cigarette smoke.

Depending on the day, the vapor exuded by Rzepka’s smoking device might smell like cherry, chocolate mint, or even blueberry waffles.

Despite the pleasant aroma, the devices aren’t allowed everywhere, including at Eddie Merlot’s restaurant in Burr Ridge, where Rzepka is a manager.

Too many concerns exist with e-cigarettes?

e-cigarettes
Chances are you have seen the recent advertisements for electronic cigarettes on television, billboards and in magazines. Social media is littered with pop-up and banner ads featuring rugged, masculine men or glamorous starlets. Does it seem like déjà vu to you? The tobacco industry used these same tactics to entice new users, many of whom now suffer health effects or worse, death.

Whether it is the act of smoking or the latest got-to-have-it gadget that draws people to e-cigarettes, it’s the nicotine that keeps them there. The fact remains that no federal agency currently oversees how e-cigarettes are made, or how and to whom they are marketed and sold.

There is no credible labeling, no testing, and therefore hold no hope of ending nicotine addiction.

Ex-Lung Association Chief Leases His Lungs to E-Cigarette Industry

'Science should triumph over opinion,' says past president of the American Lung Association

e-cigaretteSenators and state attorneys general are clamoring for the Food and Drug Administration to quickly restrict the sale of electronic cigarettes, but the past president of the American Lung Association, Charles Connor, says e-cigarettes may be "the breakthrough product" that stomps out carcinogen-packed conventional cigarettes.
Connor, president and CEO of the lung association from 2008 to 2012, joined the Electronic Cigarette Industry Group (ECIG) on Thursday as a paid consultant. He will serve as a conduit between public health experts, regulators and the booming industry, which will have an estimated $1.7 billion in U.S. sales this year.

Rush To Regulate Ecigs Could Destroy Effective Alternative

e-cigarettes
WASHINGTON, Sept. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire

Last week, several organizations sent a joint letter to the President, asking him to order the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to promptly assert authority over all tobacco products not currently under its jurisdiction.

The organizations imply that the delay is resulting in negative health consequences. However, they never mention any specific consequences, and for a good reason: They are proposing a "solution" where no problem exists. Instead, enacting regulations without sufficient scientific evidence has the potential to do a great deal of harm to public health.

The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association (CASAA) is writing the president today to urge him to advise the FDA to take the time needed to develop science-based regulations that will serve the interests of public health. CASAA is a non-profit organization that works to ensure the availability of low-risk alternatives to smoking and to provide smokers and non-smokers alike with truthful information about such alternatives.

The Silent War Against Retail and E-cigarettes

e-cigarettes
Within the past six weeks, documents outlining New York City’s secret war against electronic tobacco were leaked to the public. The contents of the documents are hardly surprising given New York’s recent assault on items sold in convenience stores, fast-food restaurants and supermarkets.

The documents were leaked by the Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association (CASAA), an advocacy group aimed at raising awareness and protecting rights to access to reduced harm alternatives. What’s more, while tobacco and menthol flavored e-cigarettes would still be available in retail stores, all other flavored e-cigarettes could only be sold in age-restricted “tobacco bars.” Unfortunately,  New York City prohibits the operation of “tobacco bars” unless they were already in operation prior to  Dec. 31, 2001.

Cigarettes phase-out considered as trial tests if vapour safer

cigarettes
Getty Images
Australia could become the first major nation to outlaw smoking, with a federal government-funded trial about to test the viability of electronic cigarettes as a safer, permanent replacement for tobacco.

Medical experts, cancer groups and anti-smoking lobbyists battled for decades to rid cigarettes from public spaces.

''E-cigarettes'' are battery-powered devices that simulate the effects of smoking by heating a nicotine liquid into vapour, which the user then inhales and exhales.

While the gadgets have been hailed as a safer substitute for cigarettes, there is no comprehensive scientific research into the health risks of inhaling vapour.
The Sun-Herald can reveal that as part of its anti-smoking reform agenda, the previous Labor government committed more than $1 million to a pioneering study that, by 2015, will determine whether or not e-cigarettes could be utilised to phase out traditional cigarettes altogether.

Ecigarettes Trigger Big Sales and Lots of Questions

What started out as an online, underground fad is now a billion dollar business. Electronic cigarettes- often called ecigarettes, really aren't cigarettes at all because there's no tobacco, no flame and no smoke. But there are still a lot of questions about where they can be used and whether they pose a health risk.

ecigarettes
Esmokeronline store manager Dave Allen says ecigarettes are becoming so popular that his business, which began as an internet site being run out of a bedroom, now has two brick and mortar stores with plans to open a third. Ecigarettes are designed to look like cigarettes, but they’re electronic. When inhaled, they convert a nicotine laced liquid into a vapor that when exhaled looks like smoke. It’s called vaping.

The liquids come in dozens of flavors like watermelon, bubblegum and caramel.  The devices themselves come in all kinds of fashionable and customizable styles. You can choose from neon pinks and greens, goth designs, bling designs or even a wood-toned executive look.  Allen says all those choices bring customers in the door.

“Or you get a lot of people coming in to just ask about how to get started in this whole thing and how it can help them quit smoking,” he says. Cheryl, a customer who declined to give her last name,  says that’s what brought her in. A smoker of 40-years, she says nothing she’s tried has brought her even close to quitting. “Chantix, hypnotism, acupressure…. Let’s think, yeah, been there done that,” she says.

Finding the best electronic cigarette is only half of your journey to becoming a successful vaper. You will also need some high quality e-liquid (also called e-juice) to put in it. While most e-cigarette users will first use the bottle of basic liquid that came with their device, it is crucial to understand that there is a big difference between that basic e-liquid and highest quality American made e-liquid, and that the biggest difference is NOT the price, it is the taste and the overall satisfaction you get from using your electronic cigarette. Your e-juice flavor and vapor is 80% of your electronic cigarette experience. The more you enjoy the flavor, the more apt you are not to smoke cigarettes. E-juice is the most important part of vaping and can also be the most frustrating. Relax, your are in the right place. Buying the cheapest liquid for your e-cig is like buying the cheapest brand of cigarettes. Chances are you have tried smoking the cheapest pack of smokes at one time or another, but chose to buy the slightly more expensive name-brand because it had better flavor and taste….right? The same is true with the liquids you fill your e-cig with, the cheap ones taste cheap. Spend a $1 more and get some real flavor and satisfaction from your electronic cigarette. Why Buy American E-Liquid?We all know that the most all the electronics we buy are made in China and other foreign countries. Heck. even most of the electronic cigarettes we use are not made in the USA. Unfortunately, it comes down to simple economics. It is cheaper to make some products in China and ship them across the ocean than it is to make the same products here. However, when it comes to e-juice, you will be surprised to learn that even the best American made e-liquids are only a fraction more expensive than their imported counterparts.American made e-juice is also more popular than foreign e-juice because US vendors have more accountability and disclosure than the foreign e-liquid vendors are subject to. American vendors are out in the open and with social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and e-cigarette forums & blogs, they are extremely exposed to opinions and reviews from their critical and somewhat obsessed customer. They can’t afford to produce poor quality juices, they simply have to be the best and making quality e-juices. This social exposure eventually weeds-out the low quality vendors, leaving the best to vendors to thrive. And thrive these vendors do! These vendors below are the best-of-the-best in this industry.

Districts ban E-Cigarettes from sporting events

e-cigarettesNORMAN, Okla. — Some school districts in the state are taking steps to fight the electronic cigarette fad on campus.
Those e-cigarettes use liquid, allowing users to inhale flavored vapor which contains different levels of nicotine. In some cases there is no nicotine in the vapor.
However, some school districts say it’s not so much the device but the example and the nicotine they want to keep off campus. It’s a move Norman schools made this week.

Shelly Hickman, with Norman Public Schools, said, “The board of education approved new policy that treats e-cigarettes just as we treat other tobacco products on our school campuses and that means we don’t want them. They are not allowed.”

Should I take up e-cigarettes in order to stop smoking?

The medical community is divided on the matter of e-cigarettes, but they can't be as bad for you as the real thing.

e-cigarettes
Cheryl Cole, Robert Pattinson and Kate Moss have all been seen "vaping". Puffing on e-cigarettes, which produce vapour instead of smoke has been tried by up to 35% of smokers, according to the public health charity Ash (Action on Smoking and Health).

The number of UK users rose from 700,000 last year to 1.3 million this year. Smokers seem to use them on top off their normal cigarette intake, or to help them quit.

But are e–cigarettes much less damaging than the real thing? These battery-operated devices contain a cartridge filled with a liquid solution of nicotine, propylene glycol (used in special effects to create fog) and flavourings that range from traditional tobacco to candy floss. Puffing activates a heating element that vapourises the liquid in the cartridge, producing a mist that is inhaled.

E-cigarettes raise new questions about smoking

When a friend sitting at my kitchen table pulled out what looked like a cigarette, I was about to direct her to the front porch. But then I realized that what she was blowing was an odorless vapor, not smoke. It was an electronic cigarette.
Electronic cigarettes come in a variety of shapes and models, but most consist of a battery, a heating element, and a liquid that
e-cigarettes
contains nicotine, propylene glycol and flavorings. The heating element warms and aerosolizes the liquid, turning it into a vapor the user inhales. Smoking an e-cigarette (called “vaping”), gives users a nicotine hit without exposing them, or those around them, to tobacco smoke. The lack of odor is one of the biggest selling points, says Craig Weiss, chief executive of NJoy electronic cigarettes.

Study supports e-cigarettes superiority over nicotine patches

Ground-breaking study supports e-cigarettes superiority over nicotine patches

Posted on by ACSH
stop smokingIn the first head-to-head comparison between e-cigarettes and nicotine patches (NRT) for helping smokers quit, a significant win for e-cigarettes was found in every measured parameter. Led by Dr. Chris Bullen of the University of Auckland, New Zealand, the researchers recruited 657 smokers who said that they wanted to quit. They were randomized into 3 groups: 289 into an e-cigarette group, 295 in the NRT group, and 73 into what they called a “placebo” group: zero-nicotine e-cigarettes. The selected marketed e-cigarette delivered a fairly low-level nicotine dose, 16 mg., while the NRTs were 21 mg. per daily patch. The study period was for 13 weeks, and the primary outcome measured was abstinence from tobacco confirmed by carbon monoxide breath testing at 6 months follow-up.

The results showed a clear win for the e-cigarette group, with 7.3 percent of that group smokefree, while the NRT group had a success rate of 5.8 percent (the placebo group had a 4.1 percent abstinence rate at 6 months). Due to the unexpectedly low success rate among the entire group, these results, while demonstrating a clear positive trend for e-cigarettes, did not achieve statistical significance. There was no advantage to any of these treatments in terms of adverse effects.

Another important finding was the likelihood of staying on the treatment throughout the study period,  even among those who did not quit completely, and the reduction of cigarette use in those non-quitters. Among those who had not managed to quit after six months, cigarette consumption was markedly reduced in the nicotine e-cigarettes group, compared to the patches and placebo groups: well over half (57%) of the participants in the e-cigarettes group had reduced their daily consumption of cigarettes by at least half after six months, compared to just over two fifths (41%) of the patches group.

In both the nicotine and placebo e-cigarettes groups, a third of participants were still using the devices after six months, compared to under one in ten (8%) of those in the patches group.  When asked whether they would recommend their allocated product to a friend one month after finishing the course, around 9 out of 10 participants in both the e-cigarettes and the placebo groups said they would, compared to just over half (56%) in the patches group.

E-Cigarettes May Be as Effective as Patch to Help Smokers Quit

Taking a drag from an e-cigarette may be just as safe and effective as slapping on a nicotine patch for smokers struggling to quit, according to the first physician-run trial to compare the two products.
About one in 20 people who used either patches or e-cigarettes managed to quit completely six months after the test started, according to research published today in The Lancet. Meanwhile, users of electronic cigarettes -- battery-powered devices that deliver vaporized nicotine -- were more likely to have cut their use of the real thing in half even if they didn’t quit entirely.
E-cigarettes have taken Europe and the U.S. by storm. In France, there are more than 1 million regular users, according to a government commissioned report published in May. Photographer: Joe Raedle/Getty Images
The 657-person trial wasn’t big enough to draw definite conclusions about whether e-cigarettes are better than nicotine patches, researchers said. Still, the results should be a signal to the regulators in the U.S. and Europe now weighing restrictions on e-cigarettes, Peter Hajek, a professor of clinical psychology at the Wolfson Institute of Preventive Medicine, said in a comment published alongside the results.
“Health professionals will now hopefully feel easier about recommending e-cigarettes to smokers, or at least condoning their use,” Hajek wrote.

Sales Growth

If European and U.S. regulators treat e-cigarettes as medical devices, yet leave cigarettes on general sale, tobacco makers “will retain their market monopoly, and we will never learn whether e-cigarettes would replace traditional cigarettes if allowed to continue evolving and competing with smoked tobacco on even terms,” he wrote.
The results will also be presented today at the European Respiratory Society’s annual meeting in Barcelona.
E-cigarettes have taken Europe and the U.S. by storm. In France, there are more than 1 million regular users, according to a government-commissioned report published in May. Sales worldwide will probably approach $2 billion by the end of this year and top $10 billion by 2017, according to a forecast by Wells Fargo & Co.
That success has brought scrutiny. The French government said it planned to ban e-cigarettes from public places. The U.K. has moved to treat them as medicines. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration may announce potential restrictions as soon as next month.

Kids use of e-cigarettes increasing?

Health officials worry it will lead to regular smoking

E-cigarettes
ATLANTA — Children — like adults — are increasingly trying electronic cigarettes, according to the first large national study to gauge use by middle and high school students.

About 2 percent of the students said they'd used an e-cigarette in the previous month, according to a survey done last year. That was up from 1 percent in 2011.

More kids still smoke traditional cigarettes than the new electronic ones, and it's not clear how dangerous e-cigarettes are. It's also not clear from the report how many are using them on a daily or weekly basis.

E-cigarettes on the rise, but still unregulated!

Expert says e-cigarettes could be effective in quitting cigarettes or even more addictive, depending on how regulated

e-cigarettesTOPEKA — Four years ago, when Rick Hasan first started selling electronic cigarettes, they seemed destined to be little more than a novelty, he said — the same as compact pipes and other smoking accessories available at his store.
"People were curious, but few kept buying. They would go back to the real cigarette," said Hasan, owner of Payless Smokes, a convenience and tobacco shop in Topeka. Now, "the e-cigarettes are taking up quite a bit of market share."

These days, e-cigarettes account for 15 percent of his sales, he said. Nationwide e-cigarettes are booming, with annual sales projected to reach $1.7 billion by year’s end.

The battery-operated devices — which vaporize liquid containing nicotine — have yet to be regulated by the federal government, though officials have pledged for two years now that they ultimately will be.
